Dear Shimer Students, Faculty, and Staff:
I’m delighted to share with you the news that Dr. Susan Henking will be the 14th President of Shimer College.
The Board of Trustees recommended Dr. Henking from the Presidential Search Committee during our Board Meeting last weekend, and we voted unanimously to accept the recommendation. The final negotiations of Susan’s contract were concluded this morning. A public announcement will be released shortly.
Susan Henking’s passion and dedication as a leader in higher education have had a lasting impact on students, faculty, administrators, and colleagues alike. Like Robert Hutchins, Susan believes that we must continuously reassess tradition by bringing it into context with contemporary challenges. And like Hutchins, Susan is invigorated by an education whose central mission is vitality: an education that animates curiosity, sparks innovation, and inspires service in our diverse global society.
Community input was of paramount importance in this long search process. We had three superlative candidates and your input helped us reach our final decision. Thank you all for your valuable participation and feedback.
I think I speak for all of us when I say we are extraordinarily fortunate to have attracted a leader of Dr. Henking’s caliber. This is a time for Shimer to shine, and Susan has the enthusiasm and experience to help us do just that.
