Shimer College

Shimer College Campus in Chicago, Illinois

Shimer College is a small school. Very Small. We fit on the campus of another college. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Shimer shares a campus with the Illinois Institute of Technology, renowned for the architecture of Mies van der Rohe, and the McCormick Tribune Campus Center designed by Rem Koolhaas. If those names don’t mean anything to you now, they will. Chicago is a city that celebrates architecture.

We occupy two floors of a building located right across from the 35th-Bronzeville-IIT Green Line Station (the Sox-35th Red Line Station is a two-minute walk away). In addition to administrative and classroom space, we have a student lounge, bookstore, library, student life & computer center, and community gathering spaces.

Sustainability and Symbiosis

Sharing a campus means sustainable and efficient use of finite resources (land, water, libraries). And there are additional benefits to space-sharing. IIT students can fulfill Humanities and Social Science credits with us, and our students can take advanced science and technology courses at IIT, as well as music theory and composition courses at the VanderCook College of Music. Shimerians are also welcome to use the many services and facilities at IIT, including student housing, libraries, cafeterias, the fitness center and much more.
