| Buchanan has been a member of the Shimer faculty since 1967. A professional actress since 1970, Buchanan has directed more than 30 theater productions at Shimer.

PROFESSIONAL HONORS Directed more than thirty productions at Shimer College including Antigone, Oedipus the King, the Oresteia, Lysistrata, Twelfth Night, Macbeth, Three Sisters, Uncle Vanya, The Seagull, A Doll’s House, Hedda Gabbler, The Importance of Being Ernest, The Madwoman of Chaillot, Awake and Sing, The Crucible, The Glass Menagerie, Our Town, The Lesson, The Bald Soprano, Waiting for Godot.
Directed professional productions including Twelfth Night, Taming of the Shrew, Private Lives, Skin of Our Teeth, Scherezade.
Acted in Professional productions including Glass Menagerie (Amanda), Seascape (Nancy), American Dream (Grandma), Hedda Gabbler (Bertha), The Seagull (Polina), Taken in Marriage (Aunt Helen).
Directed Shimer College Workshops in Classical Theatre for high school students, including workshops activities on Antigone, Oedipus the King, TheBacchae, The Odyssey, The Seagull, Glass Menagerie, Waiting for Godot, Macbeth, Taming of the Shrew.
