Shimer is proud to be an Official 2014 Military- Friendly School
Shimer College, along with more than 1,100 colleges and universities across the country, has entered into the “Yellow Ribbon” program agreement with the Department of Veterans Affairs. This program is designed to improve financial aid for veterans participating in the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
Under the Yellow Ribbon program, veterans who have served in the military since September 11, 2001 will be entitled to a base-benefit equivalent to the highest in-state public undergraduate tuition rate. Shimer will fund up to 50% of the remaining tuition bill above the public rate, and the VA will match the full amount of the contribution.
To be eligible for the maximum benefit rate under the Yellow Ribbon Program, student veterans must have served an aggregate 36 months of active duty after September 11, 2001, or been honorably discharged from active duty for a service connected disability and served 30 continuous days after September 11, 2001, or be a dependent eligible for Transfer of Entitlement under the Post 9/11 GI Bill.
