Students with 60 or more credits may transfer in courses toward the Shimer College Bachelor of Science degree that count for Shimer College’s lower-level (1- and 2-level) Core courses, except for Integrative Studies 2.  Shimer College’s lower-level Core Courses are five-credit courses.  Typically, this means that 2 3-credit Tulsa Community Collegecourses that count for the Core Courses designated below will be equivalent to one Shimer Core Course, and the remaining credit will be a lower-level elective credit in the Humanities, Natural Sciences, or Social Sciences as appropriate. Special Topics Courses and Independent Studies courses may be accepted for Shimer credit. 

The Tulsa Community College courses eligible to transfer in as Shimer Core Course Equivalences are listed below:

HUMANITIES ONE: ART AND MUSIC: two 3-credit courses, one in Art and one in Music.

One course from Art: Art 1053; ART 1063; ART 2053.

One course from Music: MUS 1002; MUS 1013; MUS 1023; MUS 1113; MUS 2013; MUS 2023; MUS 2133.

HUMANITIES TWO: POETRY, DRAMA, AND FICTION: one 3-credit course in Composition and one 3-credit course in Literature.  Two 3-credit literature courses may be accepted if there is a substantial writing component in at least one of them.

One composition course from English: ENGL 1113; ENGL 1213; ENGL 2383.

One course from English literature: ENGL 2413; ENGL 2543; ENGL 2653; ENGL 2663; ENGL 2673; ENGL 2683; ENGL 2773; ENGL 2883; ENGL 2893.

INTEGRATIVE STUDIES TWO: FOUNDATIONS OF MATHEMATICS AND LOGIC: No equivalence.

NATURAL SCIENCES ONE: LAWS AND MODELS IN CHEMISTRY: two 3-credit courses in Chemistry. 

Two courses from the following list: CHEM 1114; CHEM 1124; CHEM 1315; CHEM 1415; CHEM 2145; CHEM 2245; CHEM 2353; Philosophy: PHIL 2163.

NATURAL SCIENCES TWO: EVOLUTION, GENETICS, AND ANIMAL BEHAVIOR:  two 3-credit courses in Biology. 

Two courses from the following list:  Biology:  BIOL 1114; BIOL 1224; BIOL 1323; BIOL 1404; BIOL 1604; BIOL 2134; BIOL 2154; BIOL 2164; Philosophy: PHIL 2163.

NOTE: Philosophy 2163 can be counted for either Natural Sciences One or Natural Sciences Two, but not both.

SOCIAL SCIENCES ONE: SOCIETY, CULTURE, AND PERSONALITY: two 3-credit courses in the social sciences: at least one must be introductory; the other must be from a different department.  You must therefore choose one of the following introductory courses: Sociology 2123; Psychology 1113; or Sociology 1113.  There are three pathways to transfer to Shimer with credit for Social Sciences One.

Pathway One: Take SOCI 2123.

THEN, choose one course from the following list: Childhood Development: CHLD  2003;  Psychology: PSYC 1113; PSYC 2023; PSYC 2053; PSYC  2193; PSYC 2423; PSYC 2533; PSYC 2613; PSYC 2813; Sociology: SOCI 1113; SOCI 2013; SOCI 2053; SOCI 2113; SOCI 2133; SOCI 2143; SOCI 2173; SOCI 2813.

Pathway Two: Take PSY 1113.

THEN, choose one course from the following list:  Sociology: SOCI 1113; SOCI 2013; SOCI 2053; SOCI 2113; SOCI 2123; SOCI 2133; SOCI 2143; SOCI 2173; SOCI 2813.

Pathway Three: Take SOCI 1113

THEN, choose one course from the following list:  Childhood Development: CHLD 2003; Psychology: PSYC 1113; PSYC 2023; PSYC 2053; PSYC 2193; PSYC 2423; PSYC 2533; PSYC 2613; PSYC 2813; Sociology: SOCI 2123.

SOCIAL SCIENCES TWO: THE WESTERN POLITICAL TRADITION: two 3-credit courses in classical political theory and American politics.

Two courses from the following list, one of which must be a course in Political Science: Political Science: POLS 1113; POLS 2023; POLS 2033; POLS 2153; History: HIST 1483; HIST 1493: HIST 2333; Philosophy: PHIL 2143.
