Thanks to the efforts of Shimer staff, faculty, students, and the over 70 Shimer alums in attendance, the 2008 Alumni Reunion weekend came off marvelously. Attendees had plenty of time for learning about Shimer’s past, plotting the course of the future for the College, and just plain hanging out with friends, old and new.
One of the highlights of the weekend were the discussion classes led by current Shimer faculty. Overheard in conversations between several generations of alums were different versions of the same delighted and relieved sentiment -- “The classes are just like they were when I was here!” Alums and friends of Shimer also had a chance to see firsthand everything that the IIT campus affords Shimer, from modern gym and dormitory facilities to job-search centers.

Shimer College Alumni Association
Another highlight of the weekend was a Saturday afternoon meeting held by Director of Alumni Relations, Aaron Garland. He unveiled the new Alumni Association, which will take an active role in new student recruitment, alumni recreation, fundraising, and networking. The Alumni Association will have several regional directors, corresponding to seven geographic regions of the United States. Ed Walbridge (’56) was introduced as President, and Alan Dowty (’58) as Vice President.
