Rapid Transit

CTA Red Line
Take the Red Line to the Sox-35th station. Exit at the South end of the platform. Go East (left) to State Street, and then turn left again, heading North. Walk less than one block to 3424 South State Street.

CTA Green Line
Take the Green Line to the 35th-Bronzeville-IIT station. Exit the station at the South end of the platform, proceed to the right out of the station, and cross State Street going West. Turn right on State Street and walk north less than one block to 3424 S. State Street.

By Auto

Via the Dan Ryan Expressway (I 90/94): There is a major, long-term construction project underway on the Expressway, so there may be some delays. If you are coming from the North, take the Expressway East toward Indiana. If you are coming from the South, take the Expressway west towards Wisconsin. Get off the Expressway at the 35th Street Exit and go East on 35th Street. Turn left on State Street. In less than one block, you will find a place to turn right into a pay-by-the-hour parking lot which is directly across the street from Shimer College. The cost of parking is $1 per hour, and you can pay in cash at an unattended kiosk in the middle of the parking lot. After you have parked, cross State Street to the 3424 building entrance. (Shimer is listed on the sign out front).

 
Via Lake Shore Drive: Exit at 31st Street. Head west (away from the lake) until you reach State Street. Turn South (left). You are now on the IIT campus. Make a U-turn at 35th street to access the parking lot described above.

Once you are inside the building, the security guard at the entrance can direct you to the Shimer College Admission Office.

 By Air

Public transportation via Bus and Rail is available from O'Hare and Midway airports, and limousine or taxi will take you from all airports to IIT's campus. Check out the City of Chicago's Airport System Home Page for more information.  

By Train

Take Amtrak to Union Station, then public transportation, taxi or IIT shuttle bus from the Downtown Campus at 565 West Adams Street to Main Campus
