Shimer College announces the launch of three scholarships to be awarded to residents of Waukegan, Carroll County, and the Third Ward of Chicago. In its 160 year history, Shimer College has made a home in each of these three locations. This scholarship seeks to celebrate the impact of each town in shaping the college’s history, its present, and its future.
Dr. Susan Henking, President of Shimer College, announced the plan for the scholarships in a speech at her inauguration on September 20, 2013. Dr. Henking says, “Places matter, and the places that have mattered to Shimer include Mt. Carroll, Waukegan, and the Third Ward of Chicago. We know that we have benefited from them in the past, and through these scholarships, we know that we will continue to learn from citizens of all three places as we move into our future.”
The $2000 scholarships will be awarded to a resident of each of the three locations. The scholarship recipient must be an admitted student of Shimer College.
Sally Brown ‘65, Chair of the Shimer College Board of Trustees and an alum of the Mt. Carroll campus says, “I am thrilled that we are able to offer this scholarship to those who now benefit from Shimer’s commitment to our relationship with Mt. Carroll, Waukegan, and the city of Chicago.”
