Melanie Decelles ’15 To Compete at National Poetry Slam

A fundraiser will be held on June 28

Melanie Decelles ’15 has won a spot on the Mental Graffiti Slam Poetry team. This summer, she will be going to Oakland, CA with her team to represent Chicago at the National Poetry Slam.

The National Poetry Slam is an annual event where spoken word venues from across the country send their winning poets as a team to compete on behalf of their city or town.

A fundraiser to help defray expenses will be held on June 28 at 7:30 pm at the MultiKulti at 1000 N. Milwaukee Ave. The doors will open at 7 but the fun will kick off at 7:30. Mental Graffiti team be preforming some of its work. There will also be an open mic for other aspiring poets, and a DJ and live music from Bhakti, a jazz/ hip hop fusion band. Refreshments will be offered in the form of  cookies and a cash bar.
