Organizational Change at Shimer

The new fiscal years brings changes that anticipate the 2014-2017 Strategic Plan

President Susan Henking introduced the second phase of a reorganization of administrative positions that she began in July 2013 in an email  to staff and faculty on Friday, June 13. She indicated that the changes are aligned with the vision of the 2014-2017 Shimer Strategic Plan, which although not yet formerly approved by the Board of Trustees, has already begun to be implemented with the goal of building a sustainable foundation for Shimer. Susan wrote, “As you are aware, we have been facing financial challenges since before my arrival as president, challenges we are addressing head-on in concerted, systematic ways.” About the personnel changes she was announcing, Susan wrote,  “As your president, it is my responsibility to make decisions that enable us to meet our challenges and prepare for the future.”

Susan’s email indicated that a new Admission Counselor will be hired in the Admission Office (that search will begin July 1), and that the search for the Business Office position of Controller is ongoing.

She also announced changes to two current positions. Firstly, the position of the Director of Financial Aid has been reduced to four days a week. Secondly, the position of the Library Director and Bookstore Manager will be eliminated effective September 1.

In related news, Sandra Collins, CFO, will be leaving Shimer on Monday, June 30 after three years of service. Additionally, Marc Hoffman, who has held many positions during his eighteen years at Shimer, most recently Chief Information Officer and Director of External Relations, announced his resignation, effective July 31.
