In Brief

I am a relatively new member of the Shimer community, but have been extremely impressed (perhaps even awed), by the alums that I have known. Coming onto the Board, learning more about the faculty, students, staff, and my fellow Board members, has only increased my enthusiasm for all that Shimer represents, and my enthusiasm for being supportive in as many ways as I can.

I look forward to many years of contribution to this important institution…and many years of dangerous optimism!

Why Shimer

The educational opportunity that Shimer provides to all who attend resonates completely with my experience of what best prepares the students of today for the world of tomorrow. Critical thinking, effective communication, membership in a community of shared values, these are all critical tools for future success–and if today’s students are not successful in the future, all of us will be at risk!

Why I Give

I support Shimer financially because providing this experience to students who can best take advantage of it is an expensive proposition. Finding the students, and giving them the tools they need to succeed is critically important, and I am proud to put  my support behind this mission.

Why I Serve

I serve because while I can provide some financial support, it is certainly not remotely enough to make a significant difference for the College. But combined with my enthusiasm and experience, I can make a larger impact for Shimer.

Best Shimer Memory

Since I wasn’t a Shimer student, my best memories are more related to the alums I have met, and their amazing accomplishments and perspectives on the world.
