The Michel de Montaigne Scholarship will be awarded to students new to Shimer on the basis of students' merit in writing and discussion--the kind that Shimer students undertake every day. The scholarship honors Michel de Montaigne, the French Renaissance author and essayist.

What:
One full-tuition, two half-tuition, and a number of honorable mention awards up to $8,000 each renewable scholarships for the 2012-2013 academic year.

The essay for this year's competition is "Of Solitude." Participants will be sent a copy of the selected translation once they submit the scholarship application (see below).

When:
Saturday, February 18 or Sunday, February 19
From 9:30am to 4:00pm

How:
  • Completed Application Form
  • Essays or writing samples
  • Letter of recommendation from teacher or guidance counselor
  • High school transcripts
  • $25 application fee
  • Submit a SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION online as soon as possible.
  • Plan to complete a FAFSA. Note: Students who are awarded Federal or State Grants may have their Scholarship adjusted if the combined amount of all aid exceeds the cost of tuition.
