Information Technology Resources

____ Login to SonisWeb account to add Emergency Contacts

When you made your deposit, you should have received login information for www.shimersonisweb.com from Janet Henthorn, Director of Financial Aid, in order to accept your award letter. If you have not received a login, please let us know. SonisWeb is used by you to check your grades, update contact information, and keep track of your schedule. Shimer also uses it to keep all your important forms in one place, track your credits, and submit grades.

To add emergency contacts, click the button on the top right section of the page with the label Emergency Contacts (the button itself looks like a plus sign and a telephone). Once you’re redirected, press the “Add New Contact” button. Enter the contact information (Name, Relationship, and Phone Number) and then click Submit. On the next page, click “Enter Contact Information.” Click “Update Existing Record” on the final page and then you’re done!

____ Sign into your new Shimer Gmail account

You should receive directions on how to login to your Shimer email via the email you provided the Admissions Office. Once logged in, change your password, make any customizations to your inbox, check out the calendar, and log back in regularly for important emails, updates, and bulletins. Checking your email will become particularly crucial once you begin classes. As email is the primary way you will be contacted by the professors and administrators, you will be responsible for timely replies. To help with this, consider adding your Shimer email and calendar to your mobile phone (when applicable) for quick access.

____ Join our New Student Facebook group!

This is a group only for new students, your Admissions Counselors, and Fall Orientation Staff. You can use this to ask questions, start discussions about what you’re reading, or get to know one another before you start your time here. We’ve invited you via your email addresses, but you can also join here. It’s a secret group. If you can’t access it or don’t have a facebook, let us know and we can work something out.
