Shimer's 2008 Commencement Ceremonies

The Shimer 2008 Commencement Ceremonies will take place on May 10th at 2pm in the McCormick Tribune Campus Center Auditorium at 3201 S. State St., Chicago. The keynote speaker is Alan Dowty (Ph.D. Chicago, 1963; B.A. Shimer, 1959). Professor Dowty specializes in international relations and the international politics of the Middle East. In 2003, he was appointed as Kahanoff Chair Professor of Israel Studies at the University of Calgary, and now divides his time among South Bend, Calgary, and Jerusalem. His writings include: The Limits of American Isolation (New York), and Middle East Crisis: U.S. Decision Making in 1958, 1970, and 1973 (California), and The Jewish State: A Century Later (California. The Twentieth Century Fund sponsored his research on the right of emigration, published in Closed Borders (Yale). His recent work focuses on the Arab-Israel conflict, Israeli politics, and issues of international enforcement. He has been a fellow of the Kroc Institute since 1988. RSVP at (800) 998-9705.
