Third Year Student Colby Somerville wins Annual Poetry Prize

Colby Somerville, a third-year student from Sarasota, Florida, was this year's winner of the annual on-campus poetry contest. Gabriel Curio of Madison, Wisconsin, and Braiden Wilson of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, received Honorable Mention for their entries.

Each year, Shimer students submit poems to be judged by a panel of faculty judges as part of the University and College Poetry Prize Program of the Academy of American Poets.  A $100 prize, sponsored by Shimer alum and poet Peter Cooley (Class of '62), is awarded to the one or two best entries in each year's contest.
