| June 4, 2004 Commencement 2004 On Saturday afternoon June 4th 2004, fourteen Shimer students received their Bachelors degree, and two students received a Certificate of Completion in the graduate program of the Foundations of Science. This year marked the first year in which students completed this certificate program in the Hutchins Institute. Two members of the Class of 1954, in celebration of 50 years since their graduation, spoke at the ceremony. Trustee Diane 'Dahlberg' Nedved '54 received a distinguished alum award for her service to the college, and Bruce Cushna '54 spoke of the value of a Shimer education. While three student speakers, John Hart, Gwen Carr, Chris Richardson, reflected on what Shimer had offered them, guest speaker Dr. Harold Kolenbrander focused on the future that lies ahead of them. |
