| September 1, 2004 Haitian Educators to lead discussion at Shimer On Friday, September 3, Shimer College will host an informal discussion with Haitian educators Jude Appolon and Samson Joseph, the cofounders of GALO, the Action Group for Peace and Autonomy. They have been working for several years as both teachers of literacy and, more recently, as trainers of literacy teachers. Their method, CLE, engages participants by inviting them to tell their own stories and turn them into short illustrated books. Mr. Appolon and Mr. Joseph are visiting the United States as part of an educational exchange with Haitian grassroots organizations that Shimer College has participated in since 1997. The discussion will take place on September 3 at 6:00 pm in the Prairie House Lounge at the corner of Genesee and Cory streets in Waukegan. This discussion is free of charge and open to the public. |
